The country’s tea production for the month of November 2010 totalled 26.6 m/kgs showing a decline of 2.61 m/kgs vis-a-vis 29.2 m/kgs of 2009. “High and Low grown production for the month show a decline YoY whilst Mediums have remained static,” Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers said quoting Tea Board data.
January-November 2010 production of 302.4 m/kgs however show a gain of 37.6 m/kgs as against 264.8 m/kgs recorded for the corresponding period of 2009. This reflects an increase of 14.2 % YoY. High grown production of 71.2 m/kgs show an increase of 5.1 m/kgs as against 66.1 m/kgs of 2009. Mediums totalling 49.7 m/kgs show a gain of 10.08 m/kgs or 25.4% compared to 39.6 m/kgs of 2009 whilst Low growns totalling 178.4 m/kgs show a gain of 21.6 m/kgs as against 156.8 m/kgs of the corresponding period of last year.
CTC production - November ‘10 totaled 1.5 m/kgs showing a marginal decrease when compared to 1.6 m/kgs of November ‘09. However, cumulative production for the period January-November ‘10 of 16.6 m/kgs show a gain of 2.2 m/kgs as against 14.4 m/kgs recorded for the same period of 2009. Mediums and Low growns show a growth YoY whilst High growns show a decrease YoY, Forbes Tea Brokers said.
