Mount Vernon Estate establishes all-time record price for western high grown BP1 grade

At the Colombo Tea Auctions held on 3 December 2014 Mount Vernon Estate had the proud distinction of establishing an all-time record price of Rs. 470 for a BP1 grade from the Western High Grown C.T.C. Category. This line of tea was purchased by M/S R.J. Teas Ltd. Mount Vernon Estate was established in the year 1864 in the western high grown planting district in the Kotagala agro climatic region and is at an elevation of 1,100 metres to 1,200 metres above mean sea level. Its first superintendent was J. Martin. Currently Mount Vernon Estate comes under stewardship of the regional general manager Rohan Edwards. This Estate was converted to CTC type manufacture in 1994. Mount Vernon Estate maintains a high standard of manufacture focused on producing good quality teas, which has attributed to this achievement and produces over 1 million kilograms of tea annually. Mount Vernon Estate is owned by Kotagala Plantations PLC which is managed by Lankem Tea and Rubber Plantations Ltd. Eastern Brokers Ltd was the Broker associated with the sale of this line of tea.
