With reference to Daily FT article yesterday containing Dilmah-fame MJF Exports Group Marketing Director Malik Fernando’s response to MTI Consulting’s original comments, the latter has sent a fresh clarification:

The Kenyan Tea Board has called for a tender to set-up tea value-addition facilities in the country. Refer http://www.teaboard.or.ke/about/tenders/ . This is a fact.

Given the above and based on MTI’s market insights and intelligence, we have expressed our interpreted professional opinion in this article. We have done so in the greater interest of the industry and the Sri Lankan economy.

We have no vested business interest in tea, in any shape or form. Neither are we working on any assignment even remotely related to setting up a tea hub in Sri Lanka or anywhere in the world.

We completed the Sri Lanka Tea Board Strategy assignment in Sept. 2010. Hence we believe we are able to make a neutral/unbiased professional assessment, which is what we did in that short article.
