The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka in association with the Agribusiness Centre of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Peradeniya is conducting a mini workshop on ‘Commercialisation of Innovations in Agriculture’ on Tuesday 23 June from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Chamber Auditorium.
The objective of this workshop is to commercialise and highlight the innovations and new concepts introduced to agriculture and to create awareness of the innovations and advanced technology made to agriculture and commercialise this sector.
Three highly-qualified professors from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya will make presentations – Dr. L.H.P. Gunaratne (Ph.D. Hawaii, USA) Director/Professor, Agribusiness, Centre, Dr. D.A.N. Dharmasena (Ph.D. Cranfield, UK.) Head/Professor, Dept. of Agricultural Engineering and Dr. W.A.P. Weerakkody (Ph.D. Sri Lanka) Professor, Dept. of Crop Science.
The subjects discussed will be: Quality improvement of made tea; low cost new fertiliser mixture for protected agriculture which minimises the potential crop damages due to natural environmental conditions; eco-friendly bio fertiliser which cuts down the cost of chemical fertilisers; and capable of reducing the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides; constructed wetland to treat waste water for the industries; low cost semen extender used in artificial insemination of swine.
