A new standard for the packaging of large leaf teas offered through Colombo auctions is now in force.

The development and formulation of the Sri Lanka Standard 1474:2013 specification for Kraft Liner Board Sacks for Bulk Packaging of Tea was published by the SLSI Council as a National Standard in March 2014.

The Colombo Tea Traders Association (CTTA) Committee decided to enforce the application of the new standard regulating the paper sacks that should be used for the packaging of large leaf teas offered through the auction.

“During the grace period of one year for compliance, which expired in March 2015, confirmation of adherence to the specifications of this standard was received from all major packaging manufacturers,” the CTTA said.

All sellers have been directed to, concurrently only utilise paper sacks complying with the specifications of SLS 1474:2013, for the packaging of large leaf teas to be offered for sale through the auction.

The CTTA has also requested all manufacturers of packaging to obtain a copy of the new Standard - SLS 1474:2013 – in respect of Kraft Liner Board Sacks to be used for the packaging of large leaf teas to be offered through the auction, from The Sri Lanka Standard Institution to enable compliance in the production of their own products of this classification.
