Nihal Subasinghe from Moneragala, a young and enterprising farmer, was crowned as the ‘CIC Shooragoviya’ at a glittering ceremony held at the BMICH recently.
The ‘CIC Shooragoviya’ contest, which was held for the third consecutive year, attracted hundreds of entries from all parts of the island.
After a careful evaluation of the entries and a careful process, the panel of judges comprising academics from the Faculty of Agriculture – University of Peradeniya and the Department of Agriculture, the farmers were shortlisted to just 15 numbers.
The 15 farmers were then evaluated closely by the judges at different workshops held at the CIC Seed Farm. Finally Nihal Subasinghe emerged as the winner, for which he was entitled to a brand new car among many other prizes.
Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa graced the occasion as Chief Guest while other Cabinet and Non-Cabinet Ministers were present as honoured guests. Chairman CIC Holdings B.R.L. Fernando, MD/CEO CIC Holdings Samantha Rantunga, MD/CEO CIC Agri Businesses Keerthi Kotagama and other Directors of CIC were present among many dignitaries to congratulate the award winners.
