Bogawantalawa Tea Estates Plc has announced the appointment of Nilan Walgama as the new CEO of the company with effect from 1 November 2016.
He succeeds Jayampathy Molligoda who will relinquish the office of CEO from 1 October 2016 to continue as an Executive Director of the company.
Walgama is a Fellow of CIMA, UK and holds an MBA from Queens School of Business, Canada.
Walgama was a Senior Director with PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada’s Risk Assurance and led the Capital Projects and Infrastructure Practice. Prior to joining PwC, Walgama was the Director, Project Management Office for Sherritt International, a Canadian resources company, managing a portfolio of operational excellence and cost optimisation initiatives for its global operations including Canada, Latin America and East Africa within mining, oil and gas and utilities sectors.
Walgama has over 18 years of industry experience including international mega projects with capital cost in excess of $ 7.5 billion. He brings deep operational experience and expertise in project management, contracts management, supply chain optimization, project controls, IT and maintenance management systems.
Walgama is a specialist in construction disputes management and successfully managed several international claims under ICC rules of arbitration. Prior to joining Sherritt, Walgama was the Head of Treasury for A-B Inbev, North American operations.
