The Government this week decided to manage Osu Govi Herbal Products Company, incorporated in 2007 under the Ministry of Primary Industries.
The company, which was set up in 2004, was aimed at developing the production of medicinal plants needed for the indigenous medical industry instead of importing. The company was set up to buy the products of local medicinal plant farmers and supply raw material for the production of indigenous medicines.
Although proposals were called to maintain it as a public-private partnership no suitable investor has been identified. To maintain the operations of the company, the Cabinet this week decided to transfer its assets to the Primary Industries Ministry, Cabinet Co-spokesperson Gayantha Karunathilaka said.
