Peradeniya University and CIC Agri tie up for agri research

Two great Institutions, the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Peradeniya and CIC Agri Businesses (Private) Ltd., entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to carry out research and development work with the intention of enhancing agriculture productivity and improving the income levels of farmers.
CIC Agri Businesses which is one of the leading private sector agri business companies in Sri Lanka and the Faculty of Agriculture intends to focus their research on food and nutrition, post-harvest technology, crop variety improvements, animal husbandry, soil nutrients, fertiliser efficiency etc.
Speaking at the MOU Signing ceremony the University of Peradeniya Vice Chancellor Prof. Athula Senaratne welcomed the partnership between a public academic institution and and a private organisation.“This is a historic occasion where a large agriculture company is joining hands with an academic institution to collaborate on research that is going to benefit the country and the rural farmers”. CIC Agribusinesses Chairman B.R.L. Fernando said in response that priority should be given to research projects that can improve the agricultural productivity and that can minimise the effect on our soil, water and the environment. “We need to ensure that all our operations will provide us and our future generations with a sustainable environment.”
