Poland, a member of the European Union, wants to enter the Sri Lankan dairy sector with possible joint venture partnerships, its New-Delhi based ambassador, Tomasz Lukaszuk, said during a meeting with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
Lukaszuk met with Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Secretary General and CEO Mangala P. B. Yapa at the Chamber on 28 October.
The ambassador said that Poland has a very strong dairy sector which can be utilised to help Sri Lanka develop its local dairy industry. Lukaszuk said steps can be taken to bring in Polish diary sector businesses to tie up with local businesses to set up joint ventures etc.
The discussion also focused on areas such as tea, tourism, rubber and other potential sectors, while both parties also discussed organising business missions to each other’s countries to explore trade and investment opportunities.
Speaking during the occasion, Yapa said: “Poland’s business community should look at exploring opportunities offered by Sri Lanka, especially in the ports, shipping logistics related industries, in which Sri Lanka can play a pivotal role as a gateway to South Asia. Opportunities being made available in the free port of Hambantota could be attractive to Polish investors seeking opportunities in South Asia. “
Consul General for Poland in Sri Lanka, Deshmanya Ken Balendra, who is also the former Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, and Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Senior Assistant Secretary General Lilakshini De Mel were also present at the occasion.
The meeting took place at the Chamber premises.
