Pothotuwa, situated in the deep south in the Ruhuna agro climatic region on the boundary of the Deniyaya sub region, is a factory that has been consistently producing high quality low grown tea. It is manifested by the fact that the Pothotuwa mark has been amongst the first five ranking factories in the low grown elevation category for over a decade. It is a factory owned, and very ably and efficiently managed by Anil Alwis, a senior planter and factory owner.
Therefore, it is no surprise, that at this week’s tea auctions, a line of BOP grade from Pothotuwa Factory established an all time record price of Rs. 700 which surpassed the previous record of Rs. 670 established in 2009.
This line of tea was purchased by Imperial Teas Ltd. and the sale was conducted by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd., the sole broker and a partner in the progress of the Pothotuwa mark for over two decades.
