The National Agribusiness Council hosted its eighth consecutive National Agribusiness Awards concurrently with the Profood/Ag-Biz Trade fair on 25 August at the BMICH.
The National Level Gold Award was jointly won by Kurunegala Plantations Ltd. and Lucky Lanka Milk Processing Company Ltd.
Kurunegala Plantations won this award for sustaining with adverse weather conditions, recording a production well over the national average and proving that Government organisations too can compete with private sector with proper management.
Lucky Lanka Milk Processing Company won the award for their innovations, branding, positioning, quality and working as a truly Sri Lankan company.
The National Bronze award won by Plenty Foods Ltd. for adding value to agricultural produce while retaining nutrition and delivering convenience with their flagship brand Samaposha.
The Large Category Gold winners were Brown & Co. Plc, Hayleys Agriculture Holdings Plc, Plenty Foods Ltd., Kurunegala Plantations Ltd., HJS Condiments Ltd. and Sunfrost Ltd. Medium Category Gold awards were won by Hayleys Agro Farms Ltd. and Quality Seeds Company Ltd. Small Category Gold awards were won by Hayleys Agri Biotech Ltd., Food & Nature Ltd. and Sanasa Insurance Company Ltd.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana was the Chief Guest. Dr. D.B.T. Wijeratne, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Harin Malwatte, CEO/Secretary General of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and many distinguished invitees graced the occasion.
The National Agribusiness Awards are in recognition of performance and contribution by the formal business sector towards the development of agribusiness in Sri Lanka. The awards were sector based, grouped into Small, Medium and Large Categories while segmented in to the sectors of Input Suppliers, Services, Producers, Processors and Marketers.
The selections were made by the competent panel of judges based on business overview, financial management, human resource management, social impact and sector specific performance.
