At the Low Grown Tea Auction held on 28 March, two invoices of the Pekoe grade from Makandura Tea Factory, in the Matara district established an all time Colombo Tea Auction Record Price of Rs. 900 surpassing the previously held record price of Rs. 870. The first invoice was purchased by Shan Tea Exports whilst the second invoice was bought by George Steuart Teas amidst stiff competition from other major buyers. These teas were sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd. The management of the factory is handled by Ayesh Sirithilaka, who is a professional banker turned tea producer.
