Rs. 371.2 m worth seed paddy for farmers hit by drought

The Treasury has granted Rs. 371.215 million to provide 291,657 bushels of seed paddy to the farmers who were affected by the drought of Yala 2012 free of charge.



Those farmers claim to have 100% losses from their harvest. A total land area of 58,319 Ha is estimated to be cultivated under this provision and it is projected to have 262,435 MT of paddy harvest which would approximately amount to Rs. 8,398 million.

The objective of the President for granting this relief is to strengthen the home economy of farmers who got affected during the drought period and to ensure food security of the country.

The Treasury has coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture together with the respective District Secretaries/Government Agents to fulfill this task.
