The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka will hold a seminar on ‘Advanced Agricultural Technology and Quarantine Regulations’ on Tuesday, 31 January 2012 from 9a.m. to 12 noon at Hotel Taj Samudra, on Golden Pond.
Research, Field Crop Research and Development Institute, Mahailuppalama Deputy Director Dr. W.M.W. Weerakoon will make a presentation on ‘Available Advanced Technology in Agriculture in Sri Lanka and how they could be utilised by the private sector.’
National Plant Quarantine Services Former Deputy DirectorR.S.Y. de Silva, will speak on ‘Present quarantine regulations on agricultural produce/planning materials and how they could be used to develop the agriculture in the country.’
International Foodstuff Company Chairman Sarath de Silva, one of the prominent exporters of Sri Lankan fruits and vegetables will moderate the session.
In addition, there will also be a panel discussion with the participation of senior officials from Quarantine Department and the above speakers.
The objective of the seminar is to create awareness about available agricultural technology for commercial agriculture in Sri Lanka, quarantine regulations on agricultural produce and how such regulations could be used for the benefit of the agriculture in the country especially in introducing hybrid planting materials.
The Agriculture Department has developed advanced technology in agriculture and the private sector should effectively utilise this technology in their commercial cultivation.
