Sri Lankan Embassy in Jordan celebrates 150 years of Ceylon Tea industry

The Embassy of Sri Lankan  in Jordan, Amman celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Ceylon tea industry under the theme ‘Global Ceylon Tea Party’ at the Embassy premises on 6 July, as part of a 24-hour celebration hosted by the Sri Lankan diplomatic missions in every time zone to promote Ceylon Tea world-wide.

The main objective of this event was to promote the Ceylon Tea internationally and to express gratitude to all the people and organisations that shared this journey with Sri Lanka and whose history is entwined with Ceylon Tea over the years. 

The Global Tea Party was held with the participation of tea traders, prominent businessmen engaged in the tea industry, connoisseurs of Ceylon Tea from various organisations, Jordanian media and the Sri Lanka Embassy staff.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Jordan addressing the gathering highlighted the focal milestones of Ceylon Tea Industry and elaborated the ‘health benefits of tea. He also described the seven regional varieties of Ceylon Tea and their unique taste and brewed the inaugural cup of tea of the tea party. 

The representative from ‘Anverally Teas’, the main sponsor of the event, also delivered a speech detailing the historical route taken by the Sri Lankan Tea Industry. She also described the uniqueness of Ceylon Tea and how its taste stands out from the tea produced in other countries. 

The participants were invited to savour the regional verities of Ceylon Tea along with earl grey and ginger biscuits exclusively made for the occasion by Maliban Confectionaries and Jordanian sweets that gave this occasion a local touch as well.

Each Invitee was given a gift pack, containing the seven regional varieties of tea, flavoured teas, courtesy of Ceylon Tea Board, Imperial Teas and Anverally Teas.

Invitees hailed the event as an innovative experience in Jordan and welcomed this initiative.
