During the Yala season 2013, the estimated harvest of soyabeans was 30,000 MTs and it is a 94% increase compared to the last year. In this backdrop, a discussion was held with Farmers Societies, Traders and the Treasury Officials in order to purchase soyabeans and maize from the farmers and to determine a stable price for the same. Accordingly a decision was taken at the discussion to purchase soyabeans from the farmers at a price of Rs. 80/- per kilogram during the period from 1st of September to 31st of October 2013 and at a price of Rs.85/- per kilogram from 1st of November 2013 upwards with a view to maintain fixed price for soyabeans and grant higher price for the farmers. Additionally, it was decided to purchase a kilogram of maize at a price of Rs. 32.00 to Rs.35.00.
