Stern legal action against substandard fruit juices

Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando has instructed the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority Rumi Marzook to carry out extensive investigations on fruit juices and fruit juice manufacturing places throughout the country.
Complaints have been received on fruit juices being manufactured using fruits unsuitable for human consumption.
Complaints have also been received that smudged, rotten, and damaged fruits unsuitable for consumption and in bulk are being sent to fruit juice manufacturing places for extracting fruit juice.
The Minister has also instructed the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority to take stern and expeditious legal action against anyone who supply substandard products and services to the consumers irrespective of their status in the society.
