Sunshine Group’s Watawala Plantations triumphs at SAFA Regional Awards

Watawala Plantations PLC won the top award for the Best Presented Annual Report 2012 under the Agriculture Sector category at the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) Annual Report Awards Ceremony held in Islamabad, Pakistan this year. The Best Presented Annual Report Awards, an annual competition, is organised by SAFA, an apex body of SAARC. SAFA was formed in the year 1984 to serve the accountancy profession in the South Asian Region and uphold its eminence in the world of accountancy. It represents over 300,000 accountants in the South Asian countries namely Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Watawala Plantations PLC 2012 Annual Report, won ‘Gold’ for the fifth consecutive year under the Plantation Sector at the 2012 Annual Report Awards, organised by the Institute of Charted Accountants of Sri Lanka; qualifying Watawala to compete at regional level at the SAFA Best Presented Annual Report Awards 2012. WPL also went on to win Gold in 2013 making it the sixth consecutive year to achieve this award. Awards under different categories were conferred on the basis of evaluation administered by SAFA’s Committee for Improvement in Transparency, Accountability & Governance of the published annual reports, submitted from South Asian Countries. Commenting on this unique achievement Watawala Plantations PLC CEO Dr. Seevaratnam said that the award showcases the company’s foray into the region, moving beyond national level to bring recognition not only to Watawala Plantations PLC and the Sunshine Group, but also to the plantation industry and indeed to Sri Lanka as well. The Awards Ceremony took place at Hotel Serena, Islamabad.
