Two estates situated in Balangoda managed by Balangoda Plantataions PLC, coming under the purview of Stassen Group, have achieved tall prices at the weekly tea auctions held on 10 and 11 December.
Rasagalla estate equals all time record price
Rasagalla estate has equaled the all island all time record price for the Broken Pekoe grade by attracting a price of Rs. 580 per kilo for a line of new Rasagalla tea which was purchased by Union Commodities Ltd.
Pettiagalla OP1 gets Rs. 1,150
Pettiagalla estate too fetched a tall price of Rs. 1,150 per kilo for a 10 bag line of bright liquoring tea. Incidentally this was the top price achieved for the OP1 grade in the category Uva Medium grown teas at this auction.
This estate had the reputation for leafy teas with high degree of liquor characteristics in the past and it is heartening to see this achievement. This line of tea was purchased by Akbar Brothers ltd.
