Tea crop dips in May

Sri Lanka tea production for the month of May totalled 32.08 m/Kgs vis-a-vis 33.8 m/Kgs of 2010 showing a decrease of 1.8 m/Kgs.

Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers said low grown production show an increase compared to the corresponding month of 2010, whilst High, Medium Growns show a decrease vis-a-vis 2010.  When analysing the cumulative production for the period Jan-May 2011of 139.6 m/Kgs, a gain of 1.5 m/Kgs vis-a-vis 138.1 m/Kgs of 2010.

High Grown production of 35.6 m/Kgs show a marginal gain when compared to 35.1 m/Kgs of 2010 whilst Low Growns totaling 80.4 m/Kgs show a gain of 2 m/Kgs vis-a-vis 78.4 m/Kgs of 2010. Medium Growns however totaling 22.3 m/Kgs show a decrease of 0.9 vis-a-vis 23.2 m/Kgs of 2010.

CTC production for the month of May totaled 2.05 m/Kgs vis-a-vis 2.08 m/Kgs of 2010. Whist cumulative production for Jan-May 2011 totaled 10.1 m/Kgs vis-a-vis 7.8 m/Kgs of 2010. Showing a significant gain of 2.2 m/Kgs or 29.2%. High/Low Grown production show an increase YoY whilst mediums have shown a slight decrease.
