New Vithanakande Tea Factory in Delwala, whose teas have sold at record prices over the years and won many national and international awards, set yet another record at this week’s auction.
New Vithanakande FGS sold at an exceptional price of Rs. 610 per kg and was purchased by Mabroc Teas Ltd. New Vithanakande Tea Factory is owned by N.B.H. Pilapitiya.
An invoice of Low Grown PEK1 grade from Batuwangala Tea Factory selling under the New Batuwangala mark equals the existing record for this type of tea, achieving Rs. 860 per kilogram. This tea was purchased by Union Commodities Ltd.
Batuwangala Tea Factory is located at Neluwa in the Galle district and owned by Dr. W. Jinadasa.
