Unilever Sri Lanka’s Foods Category recently launched ‘The One Plate Project’, a unique initiative, which aims to foster the spirit of unity amidst diversity, in celebration of World Food Day. This project is based on the Sri Lankan custom of sharing and celebrating with food, which often creates a sense of togetherness, among friends, families and diverse communities.
The One Plate Project is a platform that allows you to gift a meal from your culture, to a stranger from a different ethnic community. In return, you will also receive a plate of food from an ethnic community outside yours, thereby bringing diverse communities together under the common love for Sri Lankan culinary tradition.
Consumers are invited to join the movement by purchasing a plate, priced Rs. 500/-, on WOW.lk, representing the diverse ethnicities in Sri Lanka. A portion of the proceeds from the One Plate Project will be used to support Unilever Foods’ donation of 40,000 school meals to Sri Lankan school children through the World Food Programme. This is in line with the global effort by Knorr and World Food Programme to provide one million school meals to children across the world, in commemoration of World Food Day, which falls on16th October 2015.
The One Plate Project was inaugurated by Hon. Harin Fernando, Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure, who commented on the occasion: “I am privileged to be part of the One Plate Project organized by Unilever Foods and JWT, a great example of how new technology can be harnessed to build relationships on Sri Lanka’s journey to reconciliation, through ethnic and social integration.” Shamara Silva, Category Head, Core-Foods, Unilever Sri Lanka, added, “Unilever Foods is glad to partner the One Plate Project to foster a sense of bonding by sharing a meal.” She added “through this project we aim to contribute to a fund that is working towards uplifting nutrition levels of children through our partnerships.”
