Value of tea exports up in June; year to date higher 23%

Group-pic-copyTotal quantity of tea exported in June including Re-Exports with imported Tea amounted to 25.85 Mn/kg, showing a decline of 2.72 Mn/kg (-9.51%) compared to the same period last year, Ceylon tea Brokers Plc said.

However, with the increase in FOB price per Kg from Rs. 619.91 to LKR 819.35, total export earnings have significantly increased by Rs. 3.47 Billion (+19.60%) as against the corresponding period last year. 

Cumulative exports for the period January to June 2017 including re-exports with imported Tea amounted to 138.69 Mn/Kg, showing a decrease of 7.77 Mn/Kg (-5.31%) compared to the same period last year. 

With the increase in FOB price per Kg from Rs. 609.88 to Rs. 796.34 cumulative export earnings amounted to Rs. 110.44 Billion, showing a significant gain of Rs. 21.12 Billion (+23.65%) as against the same period last year.

Equivalent USD export earnings for the period January to June 2017 amounted to approximately USD 0.73 Billion as against 0.61 Billion in the same period last year showing an increase of approximately USD 0.11 Billion.

Country wise analysis of exports shows that Turkey is the largest importer of Sri Lanka tea for the period of January – June 2017 followed by Russia and Iraq.
