Opening doors to meet and recruit undiscovered talent while forming new collaborations and network with the industry’s professionals, ‘Innovation Island Edition’ of (AOD) Reveal Graduate Design Showcase 2018 was recently held at Trace Expert City with an atmosphere of great excitement and celebration.
The exhibition was held as part of Sri Lanka Design Festival unveiling design talent and showcasing creations of graduates from its five areas of design; fashion and textile, visual communication, interior design, motion graphics and animation design, and fashion marketing and design studies.
AOD Visual Communication Design Programme Leader Anda Lupascu stated, “This is the graduation exhibition for AOD. All five departments of design are displaying their work that they’ve been working on for the past few years, it’s a great opportunity for the graduates, especially since they’re showcasing their designs and collections for the first time. A lot of time and effort have been put into this, and the purpose of the exhibition is to show to the public and industry the potential and creativity of our students who have been educated to meet the demands of the business world.”
“Today, we’re displaying designs from our final collections. Designs based on a combination of Samurai garments and robotic exoskeletons, designs inspired by Plague doctors’ costumes of the 17th to 19th century, and bold prints featuring the sporty couture are some creations that are showcased at this exhibition,” stated AOD Fashion and Textile Design Programme Leader Deanne Edirisuriya.
Highlighting graduates as the next generation of creative thinkers and innovators to enrich the business sector, the exhibition was open to all Sri Lankan businesses, companies, brands, entrepreneurs and HR divisions of businesses in order to promote the unusual group of young designers.
The innovative and original designers who premiered their creations at the showcase have been educated at AOD in Sri Lanka according to the internationally renowned design curricula of Northumbria University UK, enabling them to understand design in par with current global standards.
