Rich Light Exports Ltd. (www.richlight.lk), Chairman Zubair Jan who runs a leading garment company in Sri Lanka won a Presidential Export Award for Best Emerging Exporter in Apparel Sector at the Presidential Export Awards Ceremony. The event was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Convention Hall under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The company started 17 years ago with a staff of 200 and today it employs 1,000 people. The group in total employs close to 1,500 employees. The company manufactures bodysuits, sleep suits, pyjama sets, school wear (pants, skirts, pinafore, frocks), polo t-shirts, crew neck t-shirts and underwears. All items are exported to the Middle East, Europe and the United States of America.
Rich Light supplies garments to international clients like George, Primark, Matalan, Pep & Co, Carter’s, Marks & Spencer, Khol’s, Sears, K-mart, Target Stores, Casual Male, Gap, Dim and Walmart. The company’s factory with the capacity of producing 500,000 clothing units is situated in Kekirawa with its head office in Dematagoda. Rainbow Fashion Ltd. is an affiliated company of Rich Light. Commenting on his win, Rich Light Exports Chairman Zubair Jan said the Presidential Award can be seen as an appreciation of his company’s efforts to produce high end garments that bring in a large amount of foreign exchange into the country. He also thanked his clients and staff for all their support over the years.
