Samarphanam Entertainment will be hosting its second saree and jewellery exhibition at the Mangaiyar Mandapam Saiva Mangaiyar Vidyalayam on 18 and 19 October.

The entertainment company, which hosts several events, exhibitions and concerts in various parts of the country, will be having its second exhibition in Colombo for Diwali, after two massively successful exhibitions in Australia and New Zealand.

Samarphanam Entertainment Managing Director Malathy Sivendran started the company in Chennai, India 12 years ago and it has since organised several exciting concerts across the world.

Apart from concerts, Sivendran’s passion for art and design inspired her to start a saree brand under the company’s name. This saree brand has featured in many exhibitions across Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

This October for Diwali, Sivendran will be launching her newest collection inspired by the art of Thanjavur. Over the years the city’s beauty, vibrancy and art was something she admired.

She has put together a unique selection of sarees and will be launching her linen saree collection at the exhibition. The linen collection will focus more on work wear, bearing subtle colours and simple designs. This will be the second Samarphanam saree expo held in Colombo.

Sivendran believes that elegance is an attitude and that the saree adds grace, beauty and the right attitude.

“The saree is an artistic piece of clothing. Beauty wrapped around beauty. I want women and whoever wears my sarees to feel beautiful, confident and happy. I believe in diversity and this has always inspired me and my work.”

A proud product of Hindu Ladies’ College, Sivendran’s early student days in Chennai inspired her to venture into fashion design. The Samarphanam saree brand carries various artistic imprints which have a specific meaning. Her travels, love for Thanjavur art and heritage and Kalamkari art inspires her designs.

Samarphanam sarees aims to celebrate Indian art and heritage, adding modern appeal in terms of form and functionality. The brand is focused on showcasing diversity in all its designs. As the Founder and Director, Sivendran is responsible for creating, planning, implementing and integrating the strategic direction for the brand.

Sivendran, a Sri Lankan national, has adopted Chennai as her second home over the last 18 years.
