‘Threads of Time,’ a fashion extravaganza, will display some of the best creations of Stylemart Singapore Designer and Owner Kavita Thulasidas on 2 September at the Hilton Ballroom.
‘Threads of Time’ Presenter Anita Dorai addressing a press briefing said: “I have selected Kavita Thulasidas of Stylemart to showcase the designs because she is a designer who in my opinion embodies everything that is a hallmark of a truly great designer. Her designs are both unique and timeless as they combine the best of Eastern and Western couture and, to say it quite simply, are absolutely breath taking.”
“Although Sri Lanka is home to me now, like Kavita I’m originally from Singapore, a place which is a seed of multi culture and multi ethnicity. With these views in mind I intend to make ‘Threads of Time’ an annual fashion event. This extravaganza is both visually and creatively a beginning and we’re certain that it will go down well in the history of fashion of the country,” she added.
Most of the embroideries for the fashion pieces to be displayed are done in India. Thulasidas work closely with hand embroiderers from around 10 states across India depending on the form and technique that is adopted for her collections. Her design philosophy is to stay true to her Asian inspirations hence her label Asian Woman. Her fashion pieces depict her Asian influences and carry a mix of East and West.
The Stylemart Designer said that she always aim to complement women with her creations. “Fashion is something that is constantly evolving, it is something that always comes from the past to the future, nothing is ever new, it is always reinvented. So I take my inspiration from the past from amazing designers from all over the world like Christian Dior and Chanel, they are all inspirations to all designers from all over the world. So it is always about reinventing something that has already been out there.”
The designs that are to be showcased will feature pure silks and laces, tulles, georgettes, net and Chantilly laces worked with swarovski, while the creations will be black, navy/ midnight blues and pastel hues. Thulasidas is keen on preventing synthetics usage for any of her designs.Thulasidas staged her first fashion show in 1992 and formally took over the management of Stylemart Store Ltd., her high-end fashion label in 1999. Stylemart is a brand name associated with fashion wear for over 30 years. Their designs have created international interest with customers from all walks of life, from different cultures and for all occasions who come from many parts of the world.
“In this show I’m looking forward to bringing some elements of Sri Lanka in the collection. So I’m here to be inspired and I have been. When we talk about ‘Asian Woman,’ the brand that I design under, it is really a collection of various cultures,” she added.
The show will be choreographed by Brian Kerkoven with hair and makeup done by Ramani Fernando Salons. Porsche, the luxury automobile brand, will act as the Main Sponsor.
