Brandix designer Radhika Mendis presented 12 creative ensembles – mirroring the easy elegance of the seascape outside Galle’s Lighthouse hotel – at the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week Resort Wear Show on Sunday, 6 October. Her designs – created under the portfolio of ‘House of Inspiration’ – were inspired by the contours of the landscape, the merging of the beach and the sea, and the vibrant colours that give life to the panoramas of coastal Sri Lanka. ‘House of Inspiration’ is Brandix’s newly formed design house, intended to reflect the Group’s commitment to cherish, foster and evolve local design capabilities, and to demonstrate the depth and creative flair of in-house design. Radhika’s assortment was formulated from a line of contemporary designs from a crisp and clean palette to set a tone of easy elegance with silhouettes with a relaxed hang which are a must-have in any holiday wardrobe. The collection showcased dresses, swim cover-ups and tops with matching bottoms. The series of designs were crafted to reflect sophistication with a touch of comfort. The Brandix collection was created and exhibited on the catwalk of the show as part of the Group’s support to the Colombo Fashion Week initiative as a corporate sponsor. “Our association with Colombo Fashion Week also provides our designers with the knowledge to understand how to create a complete collection based on market needs and price points,” Udena Wickremesooriya, Director of Brandix said. “The Resort Wear show was a starting point for us, and we hope to have more of our designers on board for future shows of the Colombo Fashion Week.” The designer of the collection unveiled in Galle is a Senior Merchandiser – Product Development at Brandix Intimate Apparel (BIA). Radhika Mendis studied at Monash University – Melbourne from which she received a degree in Business Information Systems. On her return to Sri Lanka she joined Brandix purely because of her passion to sketch and design. Radhika has been with Brandix for the last three years, focusing on product design, development and product creation. The pioneer of the concept of ‘total solutions’ in Sri Lanka’s apparel sector and a preferred supplier to some of the world’s top apparel labels, Brandix is also a benchmark and international award winner for eco-friendly manufacture and commitment to environmental best practice.
