The wonders of the ocean inspire the latest collection unveiled by Colombo Jewellery Stores and HSBC Next Gen Winner Yasisurie Kiribandara at the HSBC Resort Wear Show 2014. Using a vast palette of blues, the Cool Luxury Collection reveals an astounding treasure trove of jewellery.
Another milestone etched this year is that CJS collaborates with Yasisurie Kiribandara, whose seven years in the industry working with a host of international brands including Ann Taylor, Calvin Klein, Juicy Couture and TopShop, presents the ideal springboard to incorporate contemporary artistry into clothes and jewellery.
Using Yasisurie’s creativity in design, the handcrafted denim and cotton clothing collection gained some lustrous sparkle through the use of moonstones and cabochon amethysts in this collection.
She also imbues the infinite fluidity and movement of the ocean into the collection through fabric textures. The limited edition Cool Luxury Jewellery Clothing Collection prompts an exploration of artistry and creativity, pushing the boundaries of design.
CJS CEO Akram Cassim said: “I’ve always been fascinated by the ocean. We are people who have grown up surrounded by the sea and while the ocean has always been a carefree playground, it has retained a degree of mystery that’s bewitching. There’s certain grandeur about the sea, an enchantment and a power that can take one into the unknown. And it is this compelling magic that inspired me to literally delve into the depths of the ocean and give life to this collection.”
Yasisurie, who has been a student under DKNY’s George Regukos and debuted at CFW 2014 with her Consciousness Collection which won her the HSBC Next Gen Award, said: “This collaboration with CJS surely is an inspiration because it has augmented my love for the ocean. Given that we live on an island surrounded by the ocean, this naturally influences our lives and creativity. Working with Akram Cassim on this unique collection, we sought to explore the ocean’s movement, musicality and unending movement.
“The many facets of the ocean - from soft waves to hurricanes, its marine life and that entire world under the sea with its myriad hues - are very compelling to creativity. This is what this collection creates: vibrancy combined with magical beauty that can only be discovered in the sea. I see many facets of our human lives and emotions expressed in this collection.”
