Coats was official thread and zip partner at SLDF 2014 where Opti featured prominently. Opti products were showcased in its first ever fashion runway collection as well as on a dedicated exhibition stand. Coats is the world’s second largest supplier of zips under its Opti brand and caters for a multitude of applications across a wide range of end uses in apparel and footwear, as well asin luggage, bedding and automotive. The zip forms just one part of an item of apparel but, like anything within the sector, speed of supply and quality is paramount. A key goal is to be the first supplier to develop and deliver the required customised puller to the customer. To that end, Coats has invested in technology to provide a fast and efficient puller sampling service – Coats Opti Proto Pul – and can now create any puller sample in less than seven days. The range and applications for zips have grown exponentially since their invention in the early twentieth century, and these days they need to meet very different requirements. The recently launched Opti P60 QR is a fast release zip appropriate for clothing worn in hazardous environments which may need to be removed swiftly to administer first aid. In contrast, Opti S Cutwork features adecorative lace tape that adds a delicate detail on the fine fabrics used in lingerie. Opti LUX is a range of zips developed for the luxury apparel sector. Coats Sri Lanka Managing Director Douglas Aceiro said, “We were very proud of partnering with Karen and AOD to design such a fantastic collection with Opti Zips during the SLDF. Coats is the second largest zips manufacturer and the Sri Lankan garment sector can benefit from our newly expanded supply chain and innovative capabilities.” AOD Principal Karen MacLeod plays a significant role in the creative direction of the fashion shows of SLDF which are annually organised by AOD along with the entire event. MacLeod, an experienced fashion designer hailing from the UK, stated that the collection for Coats-Opti highlighted the importance of fashion details and accessories; “I think the collection we did in collaboration with Coats Opti for SLDF 2014 was a fantastic one that really brought forward the significance of the supply chain and accessories in the cycle of fashion manufacturing. It showed the quality that is brought about into fashion with specialty details like zippers and I think the educated audience had enjoyed it as much as we did during creating this collection with delightful details.” Coats Opti has been closely involved in the manufacture of zips since their invention. Whether it is plastic moulded, standard metal or Opti Spiral with its unique ‘S’ technology, there will be an Opti zip that meets the most demanding requirement. If not, Opti continually works with customers to develop zips to meet specific needs in every possible product and situation.
