HSBC Colombo Fashion Week is launching its annual Resort Wear show in partnership with Jetwing and Fashion TV.
Colombo Fashion Week has always maintained that its sole purpose is to uplift the platform for local designers and after nine years, felt the time was right to develop a secondary platform, which focuses on the high potential category.
The Resort Wear show will showcase 10 designers both local and international with their Resort Wear collections on 22 September 2012 at Jetwing Lagoon, Talahena.
Resort Wear is growing in popularity as a spinoff from the spring summer season, it will combine swimwear, beach wear, holiday wear and cruise wear. The management of CFW had been working on this concept to create Sri Lanka as the hub for Resort Wear.
“South East Asia has a concentration of lots of resorts and a resort culture. If we look around you can start from Maldives, Goa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc., Sri Lanka can be a centre or a hub for commerce and interaction between fashion designers and their resort wear collections. In addition it’s a growing category and we wanted to plug it in with the global season. I think Sri Lanka is ready for a second but more focused fashion week, so by God’s grace here we go,” said Ajai V. Singh, President of Colombo Fashion Week
Being the first resort wear show debut in Sri Lanka, the show has been timed and planned in line with other fashion weeks around the world, showcasing the following year’s spring summer resort wear trends.
To create an environment of resort, the Resort Wear show is being hosted by the recently-opened Jetwing Lagoon, which sits beautifully on the banks of the lagoon.
The partnership with Fashion TV continues. Having first collaborated with HSBC Colombo Fashion Week 2012 and successfully broadcast to the globe with media exposure amounting to US$ 1 m, Fashion TV found the standard of Colombo Fashion Week exceptional and of international standard and was happy to continue the relationship.
The Resort Wear show promises a new dimension to the Colombo Fashion Week platform, expanding the dimension of fashion, creating different points of view, adding the appreciation of natural aesthetics to this creative platform and primarily thinking out of the box.
Key partners are HSBC, Colombo Jewellery Stores, Fed Ex, Range Rover, Rainco, Avirate, Ramani Fernando Salons, British Council, SHIFT and Diageo.
