Jaishree Parathalingam Jayesingha is a designer that possesses the unique ability of creating visually stunning pieces that blends in vibrant colours. Her creations are breathtakingly beautiful and inspired by her life experiences and the surrounding environment. Catering to a niche market, although not limited to it, Jaishree is now ready to officially launch her brand Jai. The event, which is to be held at Aashkii, Arcade Independence Square, promises to delight and thrill fashion lovers who crave uniqueness as well as elegance in their choice of attire. The launch of the Jai Collection 2015 will be held on 4 December at 7.30 p.m. With an initial focus on sarees and western attire, Aashkii at Maitland Crescent, Colombo 7 - her first boutique store- and Aashkii at the Arcade Independence Square houses an alluring range which offers guests truly distinctive pieces to add to their wardrobes. Sketching designs has always been a part of Jaishree’s life ever since her teenage years and as she grew older the hobby took on a more passionate turn as she was inspired to design and create her own clothing. Enhancing her abilities to create clothes for friends while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood, Jaishree later went on to open Aashkii in 2006, realising her desire to have her own space to express her creativity and to display her own clothing line. “I have always been interested in fashion,” said Jaishree. “I really started to think about having my own boutique store after designing clothes for my friends. I started off with my own collection and opened Aashkii.” Aashkii boutique store at Maitland Crescent has a decidedly different vibe from the store at Arcade Independence Square. While the shop at No.1 Maitland Crescent depicts a more ethnic style with vibrant hues, the one at No. 22 Arcade Independence Square is designed and built to international standards with white being the predominant colour, enhancing the space of the interior. Maitland Crescent is home to the vibrant sarees created by Jaishree, a range of sarees handpicked from Satya Paul and limited western attire while the Arcade Independence Square store carries a wide range of attire all designed by Jaishree and a selection from Ritu Kumar, renowned Indo-Western designer from India. Jaishree’ s designs vary from sarees, designed using choice fabrics with fabulous batik prints, tie dies and unique motifs, to western clothes such as dresses - short and long - skirts, tops, pants and much more. She calls it a fusion range and whatever the type of clothing is, elegance and simplicity is at the core of her creations, which have captured the hearts of many. In Jaishree’s opinion the most important thing in creating a piece of clothing or saree is the fabric, design and colour used. As such, she personally designs every piece of clothing in her line and uses choice fabrics such as satins, chiffons, silks, linen and soft cotton to name a few. “I use high quality fabrics that sit beautifully on the wearer where the designs that I create come to life and this is why my designs are successful,” she says.
