Retail design, a dynamic sector in the sector of interior design, is one of the most valuable services for today’s business fronts that aim to attract the correct consumers through effective brand projection. Providing expert knowledge paired with spirited, young talent in this area for Sri Lanka’s first designer lingerie brand, the interior designer Chamika Wickremasinghe has designed a range of unique display units and a boutique for MAS Holdings’ own brand amanté.
Amanté, is Sri Lanka’s first brand of world-class intimate wear that celebrates local consumers’ endorsement of premium lingerie. As a subsidiary of MAS Holdings, South Asia’s largest intimate apparel exporter and manufacturer, Amanté commissioned Chamika as a designer to help project their pioneering brand ideology to the Sri Lankan clientele through the retail experience. Chamika received the opportunity to design for amanté through a competition organized by her graduating design campus, AOD. “I’m thankful to AOD for the opportunity and I’m really happy with the outcome of the entire project. I’m also grateful to MAS for trusting that talents of upcoming designers such as myself for their prestigious brand. Working professionally with a world class company like MAS Holdings, gave an enormous amount of experience for me” said Chamika. Chamika is a First Class graduate of the BA (Hons) Interior Design Programme of Northumbria University School of Design UK, through AOD Sri Lanka. “Introducing a designer lingerie brand like amanté to the local audience and creating a retail experience was a challenge, but my education and previous experience helped me tackle it successfully and provide an effective solution that my clients were very happy with” added Chamika. Chamika designed display stands for amanté at Cotton Collection at Dharmapala Mawatha, the Hyde Park corner Glitz outlet and Cool Planet located in Pelawatta as well as the amanté boutique at anything.lk , Thimbirigasyaya.
Ajay Amalean, Director of MAS Holdings stated that MAS is a great supporter of young design and fresh talent. “We see great potential in talented young designers like Chamika from AOD; this is why we made the decision to work with an upcoming designer for amanté, and our instincts proved to be right – We’re pleased with the work and the way it successfully projects our brand positioning .” Chamika is a great example of how AOD together with Northumbria School of Design utilize their influential network within the design industry to find rewarding and exciting careers for their graduates. The NU School of Design degree in Interior Design is a three year programme, and is currently enrolling for its 2012/13 intake for all South-Asian students through AOD International design campus.
