The long wait came to an end last weekend as Colombo’s much-hyped Race Course Promenade finally opened its doors to an eager Sri Lankan public. Among the top-end boutiques at this celebrated venue is ‘Planet Fashion,’ Sri Lanka’s only multi-branded shop for men which has been conceived by Sri Lanka’s leading menswear specialist Hameedia.
‘Planet Fashion’ was ceremonially opened by Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa in the presence of Secretary of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rakjapakse and a host of distinguished VIPs. Joining Hameedia in this win-win venture is Madura Fashion and Lifestyle, a division of Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd., is one of India’s fastest growing branded apparel companies and a premium lifestyle player in the retail sector.
The cries of the horse racing public of yesteryear were replaced by expressions of appreciation and praise by a large number of keen shoppers and eager customers who thronged this one-of-a-kind store during the launch weekend.
Says Fouzul Hameed, “We thank the Government for its far-sighted initiative in transforming the Old Race Course into a 21st century shopping arcade. Planet Fashion brings the world’s leading men’s clothing brands under one roof and is proud to open its doors at the Race Course Promenade. With this, and the Old Dutch Hospital in Colombo Fort, Sri Lanka now joins other world capitals who’ve transformed old heritage buildings into modern leisure and lifestyle centres.”
Planet Fashion brings the best of world couture to the Sri Lankan public. Among the world’s top-end brands which grace its shelves are names such as Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England. Added to this is also Hameedia’s very own home grown Sri Lankan brand ‘Le Bond’, in addition to which are is a wide range products from shirts, trousers, suits to accessories.
Louis Philippe has been a statement of status and style for powerful men. Louis Philippe establishes, beyond a shadow of doubt, that its wearer is a man of infallible taste and class. The best-selling dress shirt brand in the world, Van Heusen has been associated with stylish, affordable and high-quality shirts since introducing the patented soft-folding collar in 1921.
Allen Solly redefined the way people dressed to work. Setting the trend for the changing workplace, Allen Solly infused vibrant colours and broke the mould of the typical work wear with its ‘Friday Dressing’. Peter England presents a crisp range of formal shirts for today’s fashion conscious male with an impeccable taste, looking to make great impressions at work every day.
Senior Brand Manager Samudu De Silva said, “All brands at Planet Fashion are available exclusively with Hameedia and authorised dealers islandwide. The response from the public, both Sri Lankans and expatriates, has been incredible. This has inspired us to replicate this concept in key capitals around the country and thus bring the same shopping experience to our fellow citizens across Sri Lanka.”
