HSBC Colombo Fashion Week 2014 saw an exclusive fusion power look merged with the elegance of Milan presented by Fouzul Hameed in his FH Collection 2014. The red carpet looks incorporated the weather factors and the fashion essentials to stay away from the sweat, male chest cleavage and mankles. Living in the tropics it can be tricky staying cool when the heat is on. The FH Collection updates you on how to avoid the ‘Miami Vice’ look and the heat to dress smartly for any occasion. The FH Collection presented at HSBC CFW is wearable, elegant and summery; Speaking of the collection, Hameedia’s Managing Director Fouzul Hameed stated: “People turning up to meetings or day and evening events or weddings in ill-fitting clothing, shirts unbuttoned to the navel, and the wrong jacket or shoes is less regular now as we Sri Lankan’s have improved our dress sense drastically over the years. Still a few essentials that are lacking in any closet are a linen or linen-mix suit, which seems like a good place to start – lightweight and loose, probably in a neutral colour. But if you are still nervous about breaking into a sweat in a blazer, ditch the jacket and just stick with the trousers, giving a jaunty little roll-up for an evening look. Rather than a crisp white shirt, I might opt instead for a dark shirt or t-shirt, perfect for soaking up and concealing any rogue perspiration.” The collection showcased at CFW consisted of three categories from the FH collection which includes jackets, the fusion look, business attire and a ceremonial look as a show stopper. The jackets were all made of linen and cotton blends which are all breathable fabrics; made in two-tones of blues and whites and a mixture of blacks and whites that could be worn for both casual and business attire. The collection also presented a mix of colours from dull reds to bright yellow, to blues, greens, white and greys which could be accompanied with jeans or dress pants and have an inner of a t-shirt or shirt depending on the occasion. The collection from FH 2014 has kept coming back to that quintessential warm-weather gathering: the wedding. Not only that, but the idea of the ‘perfect’ summer wedding, which ultimately served as the starting point for the collection, with an inclusion of khakis, blacks, to tanned suits in modern cuts such as double breasted formal jackets. The show stopper was a violet velvet suite could be worn by the fashion forward man. There’s something undeniably attractive about the mismatched tailoring in muted tones, or a white or dull red dinner jacket worn with a light-hearted ease that takes the air out of sometimes-fusty black-tie conventions. The vibe is tailored, but not precious, which is something that every guy should shoot for in warm weather. Hameed is a name that spells ‘legend’ in the local men’s fashion scene.
