High-priestess of British fashion to speak at Sri Lanka Design Festival 2012

In its mission to promote local design, Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF) is committed towards expanding the multi-billion dollar international links between the Island and the World. Marking its longstanding relationship with the global creative hub – the UK - SLDF 2012 will have one of Britain’s most high profile fashion icons at the festival this year. Wendy Dagworthy,described as "the high priestess of British fashion" (The Telegraph) will be in Sri Lanka for SLDF, hosted by British Council Sri Lanka.

Dagworthy is a co-founder of London Fashion Week, which revolutionised the way designers launch their careers in the UK. As the head of fashion at Central Saint Martins (1989–1998) and the Royal College of Art (1998 to date), and as a teacher, motivator and muse, she has had huge impact and influence on the UK’s fashion education and the fashion industry.

Dagworthy will be visiting Sri Lanka to participate in Sri Lanka Design Festival 2012’s ‘Design Education in the 21st Century’ forum along with several other high profile educators from UK and South Asia. This forum, where the British Council plays a vital role as SLDF’s ‘Knowledge Partner’, promises to revolutionise design education for the entire South Asia region, with Sri Lanka playing a pivotal role.
