By Sarah Hannan On 22 October, renowned stylist and the proprietor of Cutting Station Johann Peiris is set to celebrate 25 years in the fashion industry with a vibrant fashion show, ‘XXV by Johann’ at the Hilton Colombo. The fashion show is a specially choreographed production that will trace the evolution of fashion trends throughout the different civilisations and eras. At a recent media briefing held at Hilton the producer and choreographer of this event Lou Ching Wong shared some thoughts on the leg work done by the team: “I am very happy to be able to closely collaborate with Johann on an elaborate production at this scale. The models to walk the ramps will be professional and non professionals in the industry and some of them would be walking down the ramp for the first time. I thank Naomi Rajaratnam who will be directing and choreographing the dance items for the evening. When it comes to the clothing, each piece would be specially designed to match the era represented by the hairstyles and will be in line with the selected themes. The show will cover sections for fashion trends, named Cults, Grandeur, Eras and Transitions and Showtime.” The show will feature some of Sri Lanka’s foremost designers: Lou Ching Wong, Dharshi Keerthisena, Michael Wijesuriya, Poornima Abeyratne, Chryshanthi Fernandopulle, Dhammika Amarasekera, Ruchira Karunaratne and Channa Wijewardena. “The motivation behind XXV was to celebrate fashion over the last decade and a half and is also a way for me to thank so many people who have supported and helped me on my journey through the industry,” stated Peiris. Peiris has reached the epitome of professional excellence and is a fashion visionary and artist. Having started his career in the fashion and beauty industry straight after school, there were many he looked upon to learn the beautiful art he has now mastered, one of whom is Ramani Fernando, who he deems his mentor. Having overcome many obstacles Peiris established the now famous Cutting Station salon, which is a well-known brand. The Platinum sponsors of the event will be Raja Jewellers, while the Gold Sponsors will be Wella. The Creative Partner for the event is Leo Burnett solutions Inc., while the Event Partner is Roshan Wijeratne of Event Productions, the Host Hotel is the Hilton Colombo and Media Sponsors for the event are Wijeya Newspapers and TNL Radio Networks. The Co-sponsors of the event are Mosh, R&R, Airport Express and Sothy’s. Tickets for the show are priced at Rs. 4,000 and will be available at Cutting Station Jawatte Road and Waters Edge salons, Commons and Bayleaf. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, the charity that Johann Peiris and the Cutting Station have supported since its inception. Today the foundation is the only one of its kind that provides respite, awareness and a free helpline to Alzheimer’s patients and their families. They also have an active day care and activity centre that has made a difference not only to the lives of many patients but also to caregivers.
