Untitled-1Designer Monisha Jaising left the audience at India Couture Week (ICW) in New Delhi agape on 28 July with the exuberant fabrics and free-flowing silhouettes of her ‘Opera’ collection.

Inspired by the Italian art form of opera, Jaising’s collection was an assortment of ‘lehenga’ skirts, evening gowns, embellished dresses, cocktail sarees, crop tops and ball skirts.

Fabrics like lame, metallic velvets, tulle, Italian organza, brocade and metallic satin added the designer’s trademark drama to the collection.

Talking about her inspiration, Jaising said the opera was like a fashion show with people turning up in great finery.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty turned muse for Jaising. The beautiful Shetty set the ramp on fire in a stunning red brocade gown with a thigh-high slit. The gown received rave reviews on social media for giving the traditional brocade a phenomenal twist.

The actress was full of praise for Jaising’s work.

Ace designer Manish Malhotra closed the 10th anniversary ICW on 30 July.
