Paving way for next big idea in apparel

Textured Jersey, the recently awarded national leader for textile and manufacturing, supported the annual ‘Graduation Fashion Show’ of the Bachelor of Design Degree in Fashion Design and Product Development of the University of Moratuwa for the third consecutive year.

The University of Moratuwa has immensely contributed to the rapidly growing fashion industry by producing proficient graduates since 2001. The ‘Graduation Fashion Show’ showcases the collective designs attained over the four year period of the degree program. With the collaboration of Textured Jersey and the University of Moratuwa the students were able to produce designs inspired by global fashion brands such as Intimissimi, M&S and Victoria’s Secret.

The winners for the 2015 batch are as follows; Dakshika Abeysekara (Outstanding Designer Brand Award),Gayathri Muhandiram (Serendib Inspirational Award), Anusha Silva (Most Commercially Creative Designer Award), Kalathri Palliyaguruge (Men’s Wear Designer Award), Jayanika Chamani (Creative Knit Wear Designer Award), Dulangika Senevirathne (Innovative Designer Award) and Dakshika Abeysekara (Innovative Textile Fabric Designer Award).

According to MD/CEO of Textured Jersey Lanka, Sriyan de Silva Wijeyeratne, the company has been supporting initiatives of the University of Moratuwa over the past decade with the objective of nurturing creativity and innovation in the apparel industry. He further added that this sponsorship also serves as a recruitment drive to attract the best talent to the TJL team. Commenting on the event he said, “These students indeed hold our country’s future in their hands, and we can only pave the way to help them succeed.”

Advising young students on their career path de Silva Wijeyeratne stated, “Over time, students will discover that it is not so much what you learn, but how you learn it, and not what you know, but how you apply what you know, which will help them succeed amidst the obstacles and barriers that they will undoubtedly find along their chosen path.”
