Colombo’s foremost designer sari store lays out a surfeit of weaves to celebrate the festive season this April. With Kalaborate designer Anshuma’s spectacular contemporary textile artistry of her spring/summer range already at the store from end March, Rithihi is unwrapping a veritable treasure trove of weaves, from Bengal cottons, to Bagru hand-block printed cottons and Chanderik silk cottons from Jaipur, Gujarath Bandhanis, Lucknow’s chikan work cottons and georgettes, Kantha tussar silk saris.

The eco-chic hand-woven Bengali birthed Bailou saris will be added to the range, which will also feature a celebratory cotton range by Sri Lankan designer Asanga.

In celebrating the new year and the onset of spring, Anshuma’s collection of intricately woven saris, fascinating blouses, attractive stoles and exciting kurthas have a distinct feel of the elements embedded in its colour pallete of pristine whites, burnished golds, aqua blues, charming cognacs, muted greens, pastel pinks, dusky rose,  sunflower yellows and earthy browns.  Anushma’s contemporary yet classic designs herald a revival of textile arts, which has taken inspiration from Indian culture but promotes a new age twist.

Traditional floral motifs have been juxtaposed with a nuance of flamboyance in the geometric patterns, animal prints and flowers where Chanderi, Maheshwari, Jute, Khaadi and Tussar silks are seeing pushing the boundaries of convention and into the cotemporary.

The ‘Style of Expression’ that is now synonymous with Rithihi celebrates the craft of the weave this year, emblematic of heritage and tradition in the hand-picked designs that are very unique to Rithihi. But with conventional design moving beyond the boundaries of tradition and into the contemporary space, Rithihi has embraced these new dimensions and this New Year, the store will express these artistic revelations echoing the unparalleled beauty prevalent across the continent in all its incomparable style.
