SLDF Sustainable Fashion Summit 2013 to be Copenhagen Fashion Summit’s South Asian voice

The Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF) that has now become a national event through the focused efforts of its stakeholders the apparel industry, the Government of Sri Lanka and the private sector, has now being upgraded to be a South Asian regional event, will be staging the South Asian Fashion Summit where the industry and key stakeholders will discuss key themes that will impact the industry whilst also differentiating Sri Lanka from the rest of the world for its unique strengths. In line with this, SLDF will present its 2013 edition of the Sustainable Fashion Summit which is bearing worldwide significance as the South Asian edition to the world’s largest and the most prestigious fashion summit on sustainability, the Copenhagen Fashion Summit. With this ascent, the SLDF Sustainable Fashion Summit from 2013 onwards, will be branded as the ‘Sustainable Fashion Summit-South Asia’ and will directly represent the South Asian voice at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit which is a platform shared by the world’s top personalities in sustainability and fashion. The key conclusions made during the Sustainable Fashion Summit-South Asia held in Sri Lanka will be made into a white paper and contributed to the Copenhagen Fashion Summit where all major brands interested in sustainability and their decision makers will consider it in their discussions and decisions impacting the course of sustainable fashion for the next year. Additionally, SLDF will lead a delegation of sustainability experts from South Asia, to the Copenhagen summit from Sri Lanka. The event, themed ‘Sustainability - Towards a Global Consensus: Take II’ for its 2013 edition, will be chaired by Copenhagen Fashion Summit/Danish Fashion Institute Development Director Jonas Eder-Hansen who is a renowned global authority in Sustainable Fashion. Futerra Sustainability Communications CEO Lucy Shea will also lead a talk on “Consumer Communications/Crafting a Sustainability Story” that will prove to be valuable to all industries interested in sustainable policies. “Enabling Transparency for Global Supply Chains” discussion led by SEDEX Director of Insight and Planning Tom Smith and “Sustainable Sourcing Strategies: Partnering for Success” discussed by MADE-BY Senior Consultant Ariel Kraten are the other key discussions. Bringing the top local sustainability experts into the limelight, “A case for a Global Standard” will be debated by Nikhil Hirdaramani, Tom Smith of Sedex, Roshan Pieris of SGS along with Subramaniam Eassuwaren  from Carbon Consulting on “The Future of Fashion: Embedding Sustainability into Product”. Focusing on the much needed design component that is one of SLDF’s passionate agendas in its sustainability discussions, ‘Partnerships for Sustainability’ will be discussed with the Founder and Designer of Sri Lanka’s first ethical fashion brand RedCocoon and Head of Design and Development of MAS Brands Mihiri De Silva as well as Lonali Rodrigo of the emerging brand ‘House of Lonali’, Prabath Samarasooriya the designer behind the popular fashion brand ‘Prabath Samarasooriya’. Linda Speldewinde, founder of SLDF and AOD International Design Campus stated: “SLDF’s Sustainable Fashion Summit being selected to represent the South Asian region at world’s largest sustainable fashion summit is a milestone is voicing South Asia’s sustainability policies to the world with Sri Lanka leading the way.
