Senuri Weerawarna, the national winner of the Triumph Inspiration Award (TIA), left the island last week in order to represent Sri Lanka in Shanghai at the Triumph Inspiration Award 2012 grand finale which was held on Saturday at the Minsheng Art Museum in Shanghai.
The Triumph Inspiration Award, the industry’s leading design contest in lingerie took place in Shanghai under the theme ‘Dragons and Butterflies,’ as quintessential Chinese symbols that represent opposing elements. Students from 31 participating countries showcased their unique designs at the grand finale.
Senuri, a 20 year old currently studying for her BA degree in fashion design from the Northumbria University at the Academy of Design, is truly fervent and remarkably talented in the field of designing. She competed with 31 contestants from various parts of the world at the TIA finals and was set to do her best with her unique design.
Her award winning design, ‘Mystical Venture’ was a unique creation which showcased the ultimate potential of the young designers in Sri Lanka. In line with the theme ‘Dragons and Butterflies,’ Senuri’s design brought out the balance of emotions of a woman through the concept of Chinese paper folding art ‘Zhezhi,’ through which the scales and fire of the dragon was demonstrated while its texture and pattern matched the wings of a butterfly which praised the overall theme.
The 31 contestants presented their designs of ‘Dragons and Butterflies’ to an eminent panel of international fashion and design experts in the midst of a renowned audience in the fashion and apparel industry along with the international media.
The Triumph Inspiration Award has proven being a tremendously relevant and successful program for Triumph as well as the hopeful and enthusiastic young designers who join together to put up an exclusive lingerie fashion show which will showcase budding talent through inspirational designs.
