Prenita Fashions, Sri Lanka’s first imported designer saree boutique, celebrated its 45th Anniversary with the grand fashion extravaganza, ‘Saree Splendour’, which featured the crème de la crème of contemporary and classic designs. Chief Guest Maliban Biscuits Manufactories Chairman Rathnapala Samaraweera graced the fashion show, which saw a sold out audience. The Oak Room at the Cinnamon Grand in Colombo was decorated in celebration of Indian culture with the unique concept of using pots and pans. The décor was styled according to the tastes of Loshan de Silva.
At the gala evening, 140 designer sarees took the ramp in a show directed by veteran Trainer and Choreographer Senaka de Silva. The eight section show, displayed sarees of different motifs and colour patterns handpicked from Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. Fusing modern and traditional styles in mesmerising fashion, the detailing on each outfit was stylish and precise, creating a rich and enjoyable experience for the fashion conscious guests.
Section one saw youthful multi-toned pastel shades by designer Vinod Gada from Paaneri, Mumbai being paraded on the runway with a 24-model entourage. The sarees of silk, crepe, georgette, chiffon adorned with elegant intricate designs were draped in stylish classic and modern trends by the famed Harris Wijeyasinghe, Surangi Wijeratne and the staff of Prenita Fashions. Meanwhile, hair and makeup were done by the skilled Romesh from Capello Salon and Johann from Cutting Station. The master of ceremonies for the night was Kumar De Silva.
Opening with the traditional drumbeats of the Jananath Warakagoda Drummers, ‘Saree Splendour’ kept the audience entertained throughout, ending with a grand finale dance act performed by the renowned Channa Wijewardena dance troupe. The audience itself added to the glamour of the event, which saw a gathering of well-known Sri Lankan personalities, fashion icons and customers who have been patrons of Prenita Fashions over the years, all dressed up for the occasion. Family and friends of Priyanthi Fernando, Fashion Icon and Proprietor of Prenita Fashions had also travelled from across the world to experience the show.
Born out of the creativity and vision of Nita Fernando, Prenita Fashions began its humble journey in the 1970s, and ‘Saree Splendour’ in all its grandeur paid homage to its founder. Priyanthi Fernando strives to carry forward her mother’s vision for a brand that is known for its uniqueness, trendsetting designs and quality countrywide. At the juncture where it is celebrating a significant milestone in its journey, Prenita Fashions treated its loyal customers and supporters to a night to remember.
