Hollywood actor James Koch signs with Sri Lanka’s first talent management agency, ‘the agency sri lanka’, launching his international modelling career and seamlessly integrating into the modelling industry.
This bold entry is a career milestone for James, especially in terms of exploring his South Asian heritage and prospects in the region. He has been contemplating this move for some time. His decision was swayed by his drive to learn about foreign markets and the realisation that both acting and modelling share common ground and thrive and feed off the success of one another.
“I’ve always been interested in fashion and have been influenced by it,” James says, but it was during his stay as an exchange student at Japan’s prestigious Tsukuba University that he discovered his deeper connection with fashion, “Ever since then, I have cultivated an interest in observing style cultures, trend development and how they differ according to their context. It is fascinating!”
“Modelling is similar to acting in the sense that each assignment you do has a distinct character and sensibility that you bring to the campaign. Being comfortable in front of the camera just helps on both fronts, immensely. Also, a lot of the roles I undertake are very physically challenging and frequently require high levels of fitness and athleticism, so acting and modelling really goes hand in hand.”
James made his film debut in Chandran Rutnam’s award winning film ‘A Common Man’, where he starred alongside Sir Ben Kingsley. Most recently, James has signed on for the film ‘Nightwalk’ starring Eric Roberts (Julia Roberts’ brother) and Patrick Kilpatrick, to name a few.
James, born to Sri Lankan parents, has a diverse background (Dutch/German/Portuguese, Malay/Indonesian) which creates a very ethnically ambiguous aesthetic that is extremely dynamic and so representative of the world of fashion, today.
As an avid activist, James feels that by being a brand representative enables you to get passion projects that are very close to your heart. His modelling career will help him generate the awareness and interest needed for causes and initiatives that he supports, such as ‘Kenya Dreaming’, which is project that launched a First Aid Clinic in rural Kenya and celebrates the bright future of their community.
Together with the agency srilanka, James is looking forward to broadening his horizons and working on some exciting new projects in the upcoming months in LA and Sri Lanka.
