Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated sequel to ‘The Dark Knight’ and the third and final instalment of the ‘Batman’ film trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ will be released at the Majestic City Platinum Cinema, Liberty Lite Cinema and Mekala Gampaha on 1 September. The film has been brought down to Sri Lanka by Liberty Lands and Developments Pvt. Ltd.
The superhero film featuring the DC Comics character Batman sees Christian Bale reprising the lead role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, with are turning cast of Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as James Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Cillian Murphy as Dr. Jonathan Crane.
The film introduces two main characters to Nolan’s series: Selina Kyle (played by Anne Hathaway), a cat burglar whose appearance in Gotham City sets in motion a chain of events that leads Batman to come out of retirement and Bane (played by Tom Hardy), a mercenary whose objective is to destroy Gotham with a nuclear fusion bomb.
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ premiered in New York City on 16 July. The film was released in Australia and New Zealand on 19 July and in North America and the United Kingdom on 20 July. The film received positive reviews and has grossed $897 million worldwide in unadjusted dollars. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is currently the 22nd highest-grossing film of all time and the second highest-grossing film of 2012.
