Whilst lenses protect the eyes from harmful sunrays, the designer frames have become much more of an ‘expression’ of ourselves. For example, a black Wayfarer will create the aura of mystery, in a pleasurable manner of course, with a pinch of boldness to anyone who feasts their eyes upon someone who is wearing them, and similarly a patterned Wayfarer will express that the wearer perhaps has an outgoing personality. The sunglasses or as the Aussies say it ‘sunnies’ are more of a fashion statement for many people today. As we know any ‘looks’ per se would not be complete if there isn’t a proper blend or match of accessories. In recent times the emphasis placed upon eyewear in completing this ‘look’ has increased, especially through sunglasses, and this could be seen through the partnership of Vision Care and HSBC Colombo Fashion Week in order to compliment the glamorous and unique Resort Wear Show held this October at Jetwing Negombo. HSBC CFW is one of two fashion weeks in Asia which has introduced a dedicated resort wear season in its annual calendar, in addition to its Spring/Summer season. In a short span of two years it has grown to become a four-day event and has shown an ever-increasing growth pattern. The HSBC CFW Resort Wear Show is unique because it took place at a resort and this time; Jetwing Blue and Beach in Negombo played host to this highly anticipated event. The shows kicked off with the ‘Bright Sparks’ shows which unveiled 15 young designers at the start of the week, leading up to 20 main shows by established designers. Commenting on why resort wear is being focused on as part of CFW’s calendar showcase, Ajai V. Singh, President, CFW stated, “We can’t do much in terms of fashion with the Fall and Winter seasons, so for designer businesses to grow we need a second season along with Spring and Summer. Two years ago we found that resort wear worked well as our second season. With continuous innovation, we will keep driving this category to greater heights, creating more opportunities for Sri Lankan fashion designers and the industry.” Vision Care, has pioneered a revolution in providing state of the art eye care to the nation. By providing high tech eye testing equipment, Vision Care redefined the field of optometry. The other area in the optical industry, apart from the clinical aspect is the fashionable eyewear. Vision Care was happy to contribute to the development of fashion by showcasing an array of world renowned designer eyewear brands at this Resort Wear Show. It is the intention of Vision Care to include branded designer eyewear as a vital part of fashion, especially in the fashion enthusiastic local community. Partnering with HSBC CFW is the first step in our contribution to the local fashion industry; hence it is believed that sunglasses or designer eyewear is such an important part of fashion, such an important part of looking good. Brands such as RayBan, Dolce and Gabbana, Vogue and Maui Jim were used by designers such as Ramona Oshini, Indeevari Yapa Abeywardene (INDI), Radhika, Charini, Upeksha, Koka and Arugambay to further glamorise their collections at the Resort Wear Show.
