Originating in southern China, the centuries old culinary art of preparing dim sum has travelled the Silk Route to many nations across the globe. It has also found its way to a little island south of China known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.
The Legendary Golden Dragon at the Taj Samudra Colombo introduces its avant garde rendition of the traditional Sichuan cuisine in the form of a ‘Dim Sum Brunch’ every Sunday from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. Complete with a dim sum show kitchen set amidst hues of gold and blue, the Golden Dragon creates the perfect setting to delight in an inimitable dining experience.
Renovated and reborn at the beginning of this year, the ambience of the Golden Dragon resonates a touch of warmth with the blue hues while personifying royalty and elegance with the touch of gold. The concept of the restaurant remains simple and at the same time evokes a grand dining experience. The innovatively crafted menu, features unique dishes ranging from the ever popular dim sums and colourful appetizers to striking mains and delectable desserts, and serves up some of the traditional Sichuan recipes to satisfy the most discerning palate. The menu has been described as one that’s sure to seduce you with aromas, tempt you with its flavours, and compel you to return.
The brunch menu caters to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian pallets. Signature dishes like spinach and carrot, carrot with celery, white and black fungus with Chinese cabbage, bok choy with cashew nut, combination vegetable, green vegetable, and potato and cumin dominate the vegetarian menu.
On the non-vegetarian varieties are chicken wontons, lobster and scallop or black mushroom dim sums, chicken with chilli and black bean, chicken with coriander, spicy pork with spring onion, cuttlefish with chicken, and chicken with pine nuts and celery. Either choice is accompanied with the master chef’s special soup and fresh fruits to end the meal.
The refurbished Golden Dragon also promises a unique dining experience with its mood lighting and contemporary settings with authentic show plates and other Chinese ornaments and adornments. Specially designed furniture reflective of the regional style and leather chairs, light silk drapes, natural wooden tables, artefacts and a whole lot more add to the allure of this much loved restaurant in Colombo.
