Biofilm Biofertiliser is an environmentally friendly, 100% natural, chemical free, organic liquid fertiliser developed by a group of Sri Lankan scientists at the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS) with the aim of providing economical and environmentally friendly solutions to the excess use of chemical fertilisers and agro chemicals amongst local farmers.

Through obtaining the Control Union EU Organic Certification, Lanka Bio Fertilisers Ltd. (LBF), the commercial partner of the Biofilm Biofertiliser project aims to work closely with fruit and vegetable cultivators and exporters of Sri Lanka, in order to aid them with supplying better quality produce to their end users. Furthermore, LBF Director Operations Samuditha Kumarasinghe stated that LBF is currently conducting field trials with Biofilm Biofertiliser in several overseas countries, and the internationally recognised Organic Certification will help LBF with its future expansions.

This new generation bio-fertiliser has been developed after 10 years of research and is manufactured with only locally sourced materials from Sri Lanka. Prof. Gamini Seneviratne the lead scientist behind this innovation at NIFS stated that research has verified that Biofilm Biofertiliser is capable of reducing up to 50% of chemical fertiliser usage in major plantation crops. This revolutionary product is patented in Sri Lanka and is a World’s First.

Biofilm Biofertiliser is now commercially available for tea, vegetables, fruits, flowers and other horticultural crops. With its innovative product, Lanka Bio Fertilisers Ltd. aims to provide a permanent, economically viable and environmentally friendly solution to the excess use of chemical fertilisers amongst our local farmer community. Kumarasinghe, further emphasised that with the use of Biofilm Biofertiliser, famers have successfully been able to increase crop yield by 20-30%, whilst reducing chemical fertiliser by up to 50% and more importantly improve the soil condition of their agricultural lands to preserve them for future generations.
