Anushka Wijesinghe who joined the Chamber of Commerce recently as its Chief Economist, will make a presentation at the TMC ‘Members Meet’ on 18 November.
TMC has its Members Meet on every third Wednesday of the month at Galadari Hotel where members and guests have the opportunity of listening to reputed speakers which is followed by an interactive session. The presentation is of 45-minute duration from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. with a brief interactive session of 10 minutes. Thereafter members, their guests and public are invited to share their ideas and thoughts over food and beverages at the Lobby Bar at the Galadari Hotel at discounted rates. Members Meet has now become a very popular evening not only for the TMC members and their guests but also to the general public.
Anushka having joined the Chamber of Commerce will have the unique opportunity to provide business relevant insights and guidance from a macro economic perspective. He would also have plans to re align the work of the ‘Economic Intelligence Unit’ of the Chamber to better serve the purpose of the country’s economic agenda.
He also said that the work of ‘EIU’ is being realigned to better serve the country’s economic development agenda as well as the growth aspirations of the Chamber’s member companies. He also added that the Chamber’s key priority will be to improve the investment climate for businesses, promoting greater understanding of domestic and global economic issues and its impact on Sri Lanka and influence the medium term trajectory of the economy .
Anushka graduated with distinction in a Masters in Economics and Development from the University of Leeds Business School UK and BSc (Hons) in Economics from the University College London UK. He is an Alumnus of the Nobel Laureates Summer Programme of Istituto di Studi Economici e per L’Occupazione (I S E O) Italy.
He is also a Member of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Colombo Hub and in 2014 was named a ‘New Champions Awardee’ at the Forum’s Annual Meeting of New Champions in Tianjin China.
He also has had Consultancy stints with the World Bank, ADB, UNDP and GIZ, also has worked with the Presidential Commission on Taxation and as an Assistant Director of the Economic Affairs Division of the Peace Secretariat. He currently functions as a Non Executive Independent Director on the Board of Union Assurance General and HNB Grameen Finance.
A spokesman from the Management Club indicated that this would be a great opportunity for many of their members, guests and even for the public to hear Anushka speak on how best Sri Lanka can develop itself to become smarter for the Sri Lankan economic context.
